In a one story brick home in Milwaukee Wisconsin, I grew up the only child of the only Jewish, over-educated, east-coast native parents in the entire school district.
My predominantly Scandinavian and German neighbors kept to themselves and meticulously groomed their homes. Often playing alone in the yard or going on rides to nowhere with my mother, it never occurred to me to watch the television or even make a phone call. The only thing that got the neighbors together would be the sound of an approaching fire engine. People would suddenly appear with folding lawn chairs, lining up on the sidewalk in an orderly fashion to watch the fire.
Such were my beginnings as an outsider. I now capture that glimpse into other people's inner worlds, like Diane Arbus on a good day or a midwestern Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Now living in California, I find it just amplifies the otherness of the Midwest in my photographs. It is no longer my home. I use the eyes of a now foreign traveler to help reveal what was hidden to me as a native.
Writing is my new love.
I've got enough shiny statues now to prove to who knows that I succeeded in television. Eleven Emmy Awards, 2Associated Press, 2Edward R Murrow, 5RTNDA, shared Peabody, much etc.
I just completed my reign as President of the SF/Nor Cal chapter of NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences).
In October 2010 I was inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle.
It's an award for exceptional contributions to the local television community and hanging in there for at least 25 years.
I've continued to identify as an artist, concentrating on photography.
My work has been in several juried competitions and collections. I recently started doing author photos. Check out the next book by Pulitzer Prize winning author Alan Taylor.
All things full circle, I've revived my high school obsession with making jewelry & fashion. laceproject.etsy.com.
And travel. Always traveling. Some things don't change.

Great Deal, So No Whining! If you’ve visited the Napa/Sonoma wine country lately, you’ve probably noticed that most of the wineries are now charging (sometimes hefty) tasting fees to try their wines, often standing elbow to elbow with a bus load of tourists, all jockeying for position. In scenic Healdsburg, the Mayo Family Winery has…
Every San Francisco tourist brochure sends visitors to Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown. Yawn. Instead, you could be marching in the Saint Stupid’s Day Parade or whacking strangers in a giant pillow fight. Highlighted here are five events mostly unknown to locals, sure to provide laughs and photo-ops galore. VALENTINE’S DAY PILLOW FIGHT: February 14 Perhaps…
Do you ever lose your cool when dealing with consumer returns? Oh yes you do. With the power of the internet you can share your snit with the world. Twenty four hours ago I was in an all social media hands on deck war with uncovet for rescinding their offer to issue a refund. They…
A stylish person who puts effort and thought into her attire should likewise think about her surrounds. To this end, I was delighted to attend the opening night of the SF Art Fair at Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion. This is the first major international fine art fair in the Bay Area in nearly a decade. The Fair, is…
