In a one story brick home in Milwaukee Wisconsin, I grew up the only child of the only Jewish, over-educated, east-coast native parents in the entire school district.
My predominantly Scandinavian and German neighbors kept to themselves and meticulously groomed their homes. Often playing alone in the yard or going on rides to nowhere with my mother, it never occurred to me to watch the television or even make a phone call. The only thing that got the neighbors together would be the sound of an approaching fire engine. People would suddenly appear with folding lawn chairs, lining up on the sidewalk in an orderly fashion to watch the fire.
Such were my beginnings as an outsider. I now capture that glimpse into other people's inner worlds, like Diane Arbus on a good day or a midwestern Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Now living in California, I find it just amplifies the otherness of the Midwest in my photographs. It is no longer my home. I use the eyes of a now foreign traveler to help reveal what was hidden to me as a native.
Writing is my new love.
I've got enough shiny statues now to prove to who knows that I succeeded in television. Eleven Emmy Awards, 2Associated Press, 2Edward R Murrow, 5RTNDA, shared Peabody, much etc.
I just completed my reign as President of the SF/Nor Cal chapter of NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences).
In October 2010 I was inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle.
It's an award for exceptional contributions to the local television community and hanging in there for at least 25 years.
I've continued to identify as an artist, concentrating on photography.
My work has been in several juried competitions and collections. I recently started doing author photos. Check out the next book by Pulitzer Prize winning author Alan Taylor.
All things full circle, I've revived my high school obsession with making jewelry & fashion. laceproject.etsy.com.
And travel. Always traveling. Some things don't change.

by Babeinthewuds My visit to the Holy City of Amritsar in Punjab, India early this year was a call I had to take. No questions asked. A force, not entirely of a spiritual nature, I must admit, had been veering my in-built compass and fashioning my travel plans towards a destination not hitherto considered, for…
by Ashley Erdman I love living in London. I like to move fast and so does this city. But I find, after about six months my mind begins to scream to be as far away as possible. It’s not even just my mind, my whole body aches to be out, away, alone. My solution is…

Museums overflow in excellence! SFMOMA re-introduces us to Frida Kahlo, that icon of expressive, surrealist sufferings. Then over at the Legion of Honor, we take a fascinating look at Women Impressionists. Try to name 3. I bet you can’t! (I couldn’t before this woman-cational exhibit!!) And finally the prolific eye-patched glass pirate that is Chihuly…
