NIVEA’s gradual tanner lotion is meant to be applied every day for optimal results. Allow 15 minutes drying time before dressing; or, better yet…let it dry and settle in overnight while you are sleeping.

To achieve a truly streak-free and even application, it is critical to exfoliate first.

The art of achieving flawless coverage can often be somewhat challenging. My first try was a fiasco; I forgot the top of my feet and totally missed a section of my back legs. But no serious damage; NIVEA Sun-Kissed Radiance is designed to gradually tan over the course of several days – not immediately – so a quick fix was easy via my next application.

Remember, a little goes a long way; apply evenly and avoid slathering too much lotion in one specific area.

The self-tanner secret ingredient:  DHA – or Dihydroxyacetone

Generally derived from plant sources like sugar beets and sugar cane.

Curious as to how it works?

DHA when applied to the skin causes a chemical reaction with the skin’s surface cell amino acids producing a darkening effect.  The change only affects the outer layer of skin – the outermost cells of the epidermis. Note: DHA Concentrations vary in self-tanners (Average: 3-5%).  So, be sure to check the bottle; a higher concentration equals a darker result.
