Hair and skin behave differently from season to season, and as a result, your regularly scheduled beauty regime should adjust with the weather. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with two beauty pros to get the low down on what to keep on hand in order to stay HOT in the summer heat.

Award-winning and highly coveted city by the bay colorist, Mia says that sun and surf can wreak havoc on hair. Here are her season-friendly tips for maintaining your marvelous mane.

Mia says, “Keep Ojon® Rub-Out Dry Cleanser and a hat or brightly colored bandanna in your beach bag.” The dry shampoo is an ideal pick-me-up for hair that has been put through a full day’s worth of summer activities. The hat and/or bandanna not only make a cute and flirty summer accessory, but they are great ways to protect your color and your scalp from the sun’s damaging rays.

According to the hair pro, hot looks for summer hair include Gidget braids and beachy waves. Achieve beach hair even when you are miles away from the surf. Mia also recommends using Philip B. Maui Wowie Beach Mist to get that tousled sexy look for your tresses. The product is a blend of salt water, aloe vera extract and oils of orchid and Tahitian gardenia. Apply on damp or dry hair from roots to tips and comb through. Tousle hair and let air-dry, or twist hair in sections and dry under a diffuser for loose, sexy waves.

Medical aesthetician Susan Perry has provided her tips and recommendations for saving face in the summer sun.

If you have oily skin and live in a climate where the humidity climbs during the hot season, Perry says opt for a lighter moisturizer during hotter months such as BioMedic Hydro Active Emulsion or a hyaluronic acid rich serum such as SkinCeuticals B5 Gel.

Vitamin A products can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. During the summer months, it would be smart to switch to a Vitamin C based product. You will still get the anti-wrinkle benefits, but vitamin C will help protect against UV rays as well. Perry says apply SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic under your sunblock daily to boost your UV protection. If you’re acne-prone use a comparable product by the same company called Phloretin CF.

Perry says, “Wearing sunblock everyday is an absolute MUST, even on cloudy days.”

A-listers Cameron Diaz and Cate Blanchett use a powder sunscreen called Colorescience which Perry recommends for acne-prone skin. She recommends using the tinted powder over a 30SPF sunscreen or higher in place of a foundation for all skin types.

And, what is Perry’s recommendation for daily UVA and UVB sun protection? Both Perry and her clients rave about the super sunblock created by La Roche Posay, Anthelios 60SPF. Until recently, this French, top-selling product was only available in Europe and Canada and has now made its much anticipated arrival stateside. Bienvenue!

Alright divas, consider yourself armed, dangerous and ready for long, hot, sultry Summer. Bring it!
