Maybe you need a break from everyone and everything around you, or maybe you just prefer traveling on your own terms. Regardless of the scenario, traveling solo provides a much-needed breath of fresh air. It can be a bit intimidating, but think of it this way–you’ll get to do everything you want, when you want. The world is full of great places to explore, but if you’re in need of a reboot or escape from gloomy thoughts, a sunny Caribbean getaway is just what the doctor ordered.

The main priority for a solo traveler, particularly female, is safety. Choose lodging that’s safe and secure. Do your research, read reviews and avoid places with high drug traffic, safety alerts, theft, etc. All-inclusive resorts typically make great options and offer an endless supply of amenities, food and entertainment, so you never have to travel off of the hotel’s secure grounds if you don’t want to. Also be cautious when signing up for “excursions,” as these often serve as prime ways to target less than observant travelers. Travel with reputable companies and always go with a group of other tourists.

Packing for a solo trip is pretty easy–this is your vacation, so wear what you want! If you plan to spend the days sipping frosty cocktails on the beach, you’ll need plenty of swimwear and a few cover-ups. If you plan to take advantage of the local nightlife, pack some cute dresses and wedges that can work with multiple looks. Shorts, tanks and sneakers are essential if you plan to hit the gym, go for a hike or ride around in ATVs. Be safe and above all, enjoy some much-needed “you” time!
