1. Where do you like to flirt?

The best flirting is spontaneous, so anywhere. I can’t help but flirt with my girlfriend while we cook. I love it when girls attempt to flirt with me, especially in a bar not realizing that the girl hanging out with my friends and I actually is my girlfriend.

2. What are your favorite places to eat and drink?

Smokey’s Club serves amazing steaks, The Great Dane is a stellar brewpub and has great food as well, if you like Indian try Maharaja, if you order pizza go with Glass Nickel Pizza, and for downtown after bar food Ian’s Pizza is a must. If you enjoy coffee visit Ancora Coffee (I recommend the White Zombie) and for the best brunch/lunch/dessert you will ever have visit Bluephies.

3. Where should we stay when we visit?

Any hotel downtown, ideally The Edgewater, which sits on one of Madison’s lakes.

4. What qualities do you find irresistible in a woman?

Intelligence, a sense of humor and someone who can stand up for what they believe in but not take themselves too seriously. I would be lying if I said looks weren’t part of the equation. I am partial to brunettes. I like a girl that isn’t afraid to play a dirty word or two in Scrabble.

5. Where can we find you on a free Sunday afternoon?

At a park with my dog, Maggie, unless it is Packer season. I’m still holding out hope that Favre returns. Maggie is a 10 month old Golden Retreiver and full of energy, so plenty of play time for her is a must.

6. What do you love most about your hometown (besides our arrival)?

Madison has a never ending list of things to do and see. It has the feel of a large university town, yet it still maintains some small town charm. People often describe Madison as “the biggest small town you will ever visit.”

Madison has plenty of parks and green space, great sporting events, several lakes, museums, an amazing farmers market on the capital square the list goes on. Short of a big four pro sports team, Madison has everything you could want. UW Athletics and the Madison Mallards more than make up for this shortcoming.

7. What should we bring when we visit? What should we leave with?

Bring an open mind and walking shoes. Walking State Street is a must.

Wisconsin, as a whole, is often stereotyped as the “beer and cheese state.” That said, do not leave the farmers market without FRESH cheese curds. My girlfriend is from Minnesota and had no idea what the big deal about fresh curds was until she tried them and now she swears by them.

Also, do not leave without sampling some Wisconsin microbrews. You may not find them anywhere else. I am a big fan of the New Glarus and Tyranena breweries. If you like “girly” beer try Capital Brewery’s “Island Wheat”. Capital is one of the world’s finest breweries and anything with their name on it is worth trying.

8. What do we absolutely have to see while we’re there?

Any badger sporting event. If you visit during the summer, go see the Madison Mallards…even if you aren’t a big baseball fan.

9. Any areas of town we should avoid?

Madison is a very safe town, there aren’t many parts of the town that need to be avoided, especially if you are used to living in a larger city.

10. Any local secrets you want to share?

There are more than a few Madison cab drivers who are working on their doctorates, strike up a conversation on your cab ride from the airport to your hotel.
