1. Where do you like to flirt?

Where it’s unexpected.

2. Where is your favorite table for two?

The Siam Society.

3. Where should we stay when we visit?

The Mark Spencer Hotel. It’s not very sexy, but it is grandpa-comfy and the rooms have kitchenettes – good for extended stays. You’re also in the heart of downtown Portland.

4. What qualities do you find irresistible in a woman?

Unusual humor, with a splash of self-deprecation, open-mindedness, mysteriousness, zestiness (to balance my bitterness) and nessnesses (needed more nesses).

5. Where can we find you on a free Sunday afternoon?

One of the following: under trees, at the beach, or both; kayaking through the Columbia River Gorge; on the back patio tending a bonsai garden; or biking (I look like the guy who looks too big to be on a bike. Something just looks wrong.).

6. What do you love most about your hometown (besides our arrival)?

The attention to detail, everywhere you look and listen.

7. What should we bring when we visit? What should we leave with?

Bring an umbrella. Better yet, a brightly-colored poncho. And a bike. This is the most bikeable city is the U.S. Leave with a pleasantly surprised feeling and a numb ass (from the biking, surely).

8. What do we absolutely have to see while we’re there?

Our amazing Japanese Garden. It’s well worth the quick bus trip, especially in the Fall.

9. Any areas of town we should avoid?

Not that I know of. Explore. Forget I said that if anything happens.

10. Any local secrets you want to share?

Spend an afternoon or evening strolling around town and you’ll find plenty of your own secrets.

You’ll be amazed at how good the food is just about everywhere you go. Even at a martini bar, like Vault.

There are more microbreweries per capita here than any other city in the U.S. (and possibly the world?). Try the locally brewed Hammerhead Stout, even if you don’t like beer, preferably while attending a concert at Mcmenamins. Don’t be worried if you feel strangely at home with a bunch of people you don’t know:
