1. Where do you like to flirt?

With my lady—in the kitchen.

2. What are your favorite places to eat and drink?

There’s a ton of great choices. I’m a meat and potatoes guy, and the best steak in town is at Boboquivari’s (1450 Lombard Street ). Good service, and a fun atmosphere. You can’t go wrong here.

And if the sun’s out, head over to Park Chalet on Ocean Beach (1000 Great Hwy ). It’s the only restaurant/bar in Golden Gate Park and it’s outdoors. It makes for a nice Sunday afternoon.

3. Where should we stay when we visit?

For the unique boutique hotel experience, check out Hotel Rex in Union Square (562 Sutter Street). It’s eclectic, comfortable and has a great bar.

Or if you want to stay near Golden Gate Park (and save a little) then stay at the quiet Stanyan Park Hotel, 750 Stanyan Street.

4. What qualities do you find irresistible in a woman?

I like a woman that’s confident and has a great sense of humor. If she doesn’t take herself too seriously (or me too seriously), then we’re on the right track.

And if she likes to travel and the outdoors. She doesn’t have to be a hiking pro, but if she’s up for experiencing new things, then that’s great.

Basically, I’m describing the Canadian red-head I’m dating right now!

5. Where can we find you on a free Sunday afternoon?

I like the outdoors, so you’ll find me hiking, biking or researching for my company http://www.weekendsherpa.com/. Every week, we write an email about a few fun things you can do in the outdoors around northern California. There’s so much to explore and discover up here, I’m always finding something new.

6. What do you love most about your hometown (besides our arrival)?

It’s such a healthy and active city. Just head down to Crissy Field on a Saturday afternoon and you’ll see what I mean.

And it’s got everything you’d want from a big city: great food, a cool music scene, and a lot of diversity.

7. What should we bring when we visit? What should we leave with?

Bring your sense of adventure. You can go hiking along Land’s End or kayaking in the Bay during the day—then you can go out on the town at night. It’s a great combination.

And take with you some Peet’s coffee beans and Scharffen Berger dark chocolate. Both are Bay Area companies at the top of their game. Get it at the renovated
Ferry Building.

8. What do we absolutely have to see while we’re there?

You should check out Alcatraz—but do it at night. A lot of locals don’t even know they offer this tour option, and the city skyline looks amazing from ”
The Rock.”

And you gotta go to
Jack Early Park. This place is pure SF. It’s a small hidden park in North Beach. You climb the stairs all the way up to a bench that overlooks all of the bay. Chances are you’ll be up there by yourself.

9. Any areas of town we should avoid?

It’s a good idea to avoid the Tenderloin. I stayed here before I moved, when I was young and naive. I found a good rate on hotels.com. Beware of the good rate from hotels.com.

10. Any local secrets you want to share?

From the first issue of Weekend Sherpa: ride your bike across Golden Gate Bridge to the best secluded beach on the bay. It’s secluded because of the one-mile bike or hike it takes to get there past the gate—no cars are allowed. But it’s hidden among cypress and eucalyptus trees with the best picnic spot views around. http://www.weekendsherpa.com/archives/newsletter/1/
