Diva Minds Want to Know…

1. Where do you like to flirt?

If it’s a cosmopolitan bar you’re after then take a walk along to the “Opel Lounge” on George Street. This is a classy basement bar and club where Edinburgh socialites hang out. For something a little more relaxed check out the “Candy Bar,” also in George Street, and a great place to chill out and meet the locals.

If it’s more of the local Scottish atmosphere you’re craving then head down to the Grass market where there are over 20 pubs from The Last Drop, so called because the last outdoor hanging in Scotland was conducted outside the pub. It is reputed that the executioner took the condemned man to this pub for a drink just before hanging him. There is a drink in here called the ‘Executioner cocktail’ which is a potent mix of strong cider and strong ale. (They also have a black board and chalk in the rest rooms so you can do your own graffiti legally.)

Also, I do enjoy a pint at the Half Way House located at 24 Flesh Market Close where they serve great haggis as well as a fine selection of beers from the smaller Scottish Breweries. The Jolly Judge is somewhere I like to frequent on a Saturday afternoon. With a magnificent location and great history, this is a wee gem located just off the Royal Mile below the Castle.

2. Where’s your favorite table for two?

This has to be “The Tower” restaurant; this is on the top floor of the very impressive Chamber Street museum building (one of the best museums anywhere in the world).
Here you will find panoramic views of the city, fantastic food and impeccable service.

3. Where should we stay when we visit (besides your place)?

For an unrivalled location (Foot of the Castle) with a price tag to match is “The Witchery.” This is probably Edinburgh’s best known restaurant, however, it does have a limited number of spectacular rooms. If this is not available I would suggest the “Scotsman” on South Bridge, fine rooms and a great location.

4. What quality do you find irresistible in a woman?

A caring nature, intelligence, beautiful eyes, fun loving….and not necessarily in that order.

5. Where can we find you on a free Sunday afternoon?

Recovering from a great Saturday night by enjoying breakfast in a local pub or cafe such as Mal Maison in Victoria Street! Playing the traditional Highland sport of Shinty. You’ll need to find out what this is when you get here.

6. What do you love most about your city (besides our arrival)?

Also known as the Athens of the North, Edinburgh is an aesthetically stunning city. Its amazing and vibrant history can be seen from every street corner. It also has one of the highest ratios in Europe for pubs per resident which always makes for great “Craic” – Gaelic for fun.

7. What should we bring when we visit your town? What should we leave with?

You should pack an expensive colored credit card for all the designer shops in George Street. You will leave with a smile on your face and a yearning to return to such a beautiful and fun city that is so full of character.

8. What do we absolutely have to see while we’re there?

The Castle is a must with its rich history and amazing views of the city and the Firth of Forth. The view of Princess Street from Calton Hill is also spectacular.

9. Any areas of town we should avoid?

Central Edinburgh is a friendly safe city where everyone can enjoy themselves without the safety issues that bigger cities often pose.

10. Any local secrets you want to share?

The “Festival” is the world’s biggest annual arts festival by the way! Not only can you enjoy cutting edge art, fashion, comedy and theatre, but most pubs are open to 3am and clubs until 5am. If you can’t have a good time here you can’t have a good time anywhere!!
